After fitting and installing dozens of these Spool Latch Covers, we were pretty confident that we had made yet another foolproof universal part for the Medalist. And then, last year at a show, a customer asked me to change the spool latch cover on one of his favorite Medalist reels. Much to my surprise I found that the old spool release lever would not fit into our new replacement cover. Rummaging around in my small tool kit, I found a small fine file and a whetstone. With these two tools, I gently filed and honed the sides of the spool release lever (or “Spool Release Cam” as Pflueger shows it in their parts list). Very shortly it was filed enough to fall in place into the pocket on our replacement Spool Latch Cover.
