Round Line Guards
Here at last!
The part everyone has been asking for!
By far the most asked for Medalist replacement part, after the One-Pfoot Replacement Foot, has been the round line guard. For years folks asked us when we were going to make this elegant and distinctive part that had, in the past, graced many old Medalist reels. Like many of our parts this has been, and will continue to be, a work in progress.
We started the line guard project by looking at and studying materials—comparing and testing some of the older traditional materials that Pflueger had used. We also looked at the way these materials were attached to the reels. After a period of time we began to develop some precision tooling and fixtures that would aid us in the installation of this handsome part.
To date what we have arrived at is a very beautiful round line guard that is barely distinguishable from the originals. This turned, milled, and slotted precision part is made of polished 304 stainless steel, and with aid of our tooling, is affixed to the reel in the traditional method utilizing stainless Type-U drive screws. To date we are manufacturing the round line guard for the Pflueger Medalist 1494 only. As demand dictates, we will try to bring round line guards for other Medalist models to market.
Because of the high degree of precision that is needed to attach the round line guard to the Medalist reel we are not offering this product as a “do it yourself kit.” Instead, we are asking that customers send their reels to us. We will precision fit the new round line guard using our tooling and fixtures. This will ensure that the Type–U drive screws that hold the line guard to the reel are in the proper position for a true and lasting hold.
